Overview

The single leg broad jump is a unilateral horizontal jumping movement assessment that evaluates an athlete’s ability to generate horizontal power and maintain stability on one leg during landing. This movement is commonly used in athletic assessment and training as it provides valuable information about unilateral horizontal power, balance, and lower extremity function.

Instructions

Stand on one leg (the stance leg as specified by footedness). Dip slightly, then jump forward as far as possible off that leg. Land on the same leg and absorb the landing with a soft bend at the hip and knee. Use the specified arm position (arm-swing or hands-on-hips) consistently. Repeat on the other leg when both sides are assessed.
