Technical Details

  • Variable Type: Discrete Metric
  • Data Type: Float
  • Units: degrees/s
  • Column Name: Varies by phase (see Events/Phases); left/right in bilateral, single value in single-leg
  • Measurement: Maximum rate of ankle extension (plantarflexion) during the specified concentric phase

Events / Phases

This metric can be reported during the following concentric (push/stand-up) phases:
  • Takeoff Concentric: From Bottom to Takeoff.
    • Column examples: jumping_left_ankle_peak_extension_velocity, jumping_right_ankle_peak_extension_velocity (bilateral); jumping_ankle_peak_extension_velocity (single-leg).
  • Landing Concentric: From Landing Bottom to Termination.
    • Column names vary by implementation; typically left/right in bilateral.

Description

Peak ankle velocity is the maximum angular velocity of ankle dorsiflexion (flexion) or plantarflexion (extension) during a specific phase of the jump. It reflects ankle power and contribution to the kinematic sequence. The phase, direction, and side determines which column name applies.

Use Cases

  • Ankle power and contribution to jump or stand-up
  • Distal segment timing in kinematic sequence
  • Technique and power assessment
