Ankle Dorsiflexion

Overview

The ankle dorsiflexion assessment evaluates the range of motion and quality of movement in the ankle joint. This assessment can be performed in either a standing or half-kneel position, and measures the ability to achieve sufficient dorsiflexion while maintaining proper alignment.

Events

EventData TypeDescription
Assessment PositionString’standing’ or ‘half-kneel’ based on knee and hip angles
FootednessString’left’ or ‘right’ indicating which foot is being tested

Discrete Metrics

MetricData TypeUnitsDescription
AssessmentPositionString-Assessment position (‘standing’ or ‘half-kneel’)
FootednessString-Which foot is being tested (‘left’ or ‘right’)
MaxFlexionFloatdegreesMaximum dorsiflexion angle
ExcursionFloatdegreesTotal range of motion
SufficientFlexionBoolean-Whether flexion is sufficient (≥ 30°)
BackKneePassFrontAnkleBoolean-Whether back knee passes front ankle

Notes

  • All angular measurements follow ISB conventions
  • Assessment position is determined by knee and hip angles (threshold of 80°)
  • Footedness is determined by hip angle patterns
  • Sufficient dorsiflexion is defined as ≥ 30°
