# Using a bluetooth remote

> Learn how to connect an iPad or iPhone as a remote control device to facilitate your Uplift Capture assessments.

You may run into cases where you'd like to capture a player's movement, but you can't be near the phone. In those cases, we've seen a lot of success when using a bluetooth camera remote control, such as the one linked in [this article on recommended capture equipment](../getting-started/recommended-capture-equipment.md).

# Connect the bluetooth remote

Follow [Apple's official steps for connection a bluetooth accessory here](https://support.apple.com/en-gb/105108). The remote can be paired with either the Primary or the Secondary device.

You can test that the controller is working correctly by opening your camera app and clicking the button to make sure it takes a picture.

# Control recording

Click the button on the remote once to start the recording, and then again to end the recording. You can test that the

***Tips:***

* When controlling Uplift Capture with a bluetooth remote, staying within 15 feet of the primary device with ensure your bluetooth remote properly triggers the camera for each capture.
* If you're capturing a movement that supports [auto-capture](using-auto-capture-mode.md), you don't need to control the recording at all!
