# Forward Angular Velocity Time Series

> Time series of instantaneous forward angular velocity for torso, upper arm, and forearm. Used to evaluate kinematic sequence.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Time Series Metric
* **Data Type:** Float array
* **Units:** deg/s
* **Column Name:** `torso_forward_angular_velocity`, `upper_arm_forward_angular_velocity`, `forearm_forward_angular_velocity`
* **Measurement:** Instantaneous forward (somersault) angular velocity of each segment over time, measured in the serve direction

## Description

These time series metrics give the forward angular velocity of the torso, upper arm, and forearm throughout the serve.
They are used to determine the [Kinematic Sequence](/biomechanics/activities/tennis/metrics/forward-kinematic-sequence) (order of peak velocities).
