Technical Details

  • Variable Type: Discrete Metric
  • Data Type: Float
  • Units: × height (ratio to athlete height)
  • Column Name: displacement_open_side
  • Measurement: Open-side (lateral, non-dominant side) body displacement between Apex (ball contact) and Termination, divided by athlete height

Description

Open-side displacement (normalized) measures how far the body drifts laterally toward the non-dominant (open) side between ball contact and the finish of the serve, expressed as a multiple of the athlete’s height. It provides the underlying continuous measurement behind the Landing Phase Excessive Side Drift movement flag, which flags displacement greater than 0.30x height (or less than -0.10x height).

Use Cases

  • Lateral stability analysis
  • Related to Landing Phase Excessive Side Drift flag
  • Balance and follow-through assessment
