# Landing Phase Excessive Forward Lean

> Leaning too far forward after the serve.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Movement Flag
* **Data Type:** Integer
* **Units:** N/A
* **Column Name:** `landing_phase_excessive_forward_lean`
* **Optimal Direction:** Lower is better
* **Unknown Value:** -1
* **Measurement:** Trunk forward flexion at [Termination](/biomechanics/activities/tennis/events/termination)
* **Threshold:** Trunk flexion greater than 60° past vertical

## Description

Landing phase excessive forward lean is a binary indicator that flags if the trunk leans forward more than 60° at the finish of the serve.
This can indicate lack of deceleration control, increased strain through the low back, and poor positioning to prepare for a return volley.

## Use Cases

* Follow-through and deceleration assessment
* Injury risk identification
