# Rise Height

> Vertical travel of the hip center from the lowest point to the top of each sit-to-stand rise.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Discrete Metric
* **Data Type:** Float
* **Units:** meters (m)
* **Column Name:** `rise_height`
* **Optimal Direction:** N/A
* **Measurement:** Vertical displacement of the hip center (pelvis keypoint) from the repetition's lowest point to [Stand](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/events/stand)

## Description

Rise Height is how far the hips travel upward during each repetition.
The lowest point is the last frame before the rise within 2% of the rise amplitude of the repetition's minimum height, so a long seated pause does not affect it.
Rise Height depends mostly on the person's leg length and chair height, so it has no optimal direction, but it should be similar across repetitions in the same capture.

Rise Height is used to flag [invalid repetitions](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/metrics/repetition-validity) and to calculate [Relative Power](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/metrics/relative-power).

## Use Cases

* Checking that each repetition reached a full stand
* Input to Relative Power
