# Repetition Count and Number

> The number of sit-to-stand repetitions detected in the capture, and the index of each repetition.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Discrete Metric
* **Data Type:** Integer
* **Units:** count
* **Column Name:** `repetition_count` (Repetition Count), `repetition_number` (Repetition Number)
* **Optimal Direction:** N/A
* **Measurement:** Number of [Stand](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/events/stand) events detected in the capture

## Variants

* **Repetition Count** (`repetition_count`) (summary): total number of repetitions detected in the capture.
* **Repetition Number** (`repetition_number`) (per repetition): index of the repetition within the capture, starting at 1.

## Description

Repetition Count is the number of times the person stood up during the capture.
A repetition is counted at each [Stand](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/events/stand).
Repetition Count includes every detected repetition, including repetitions flagged as [invalid](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/metrics/repetition-validity).

Captures with no detected repetitions or more than 25 repetitions fail QA.
Up to 25 repetitions are analyzed per capture.

Repetition Number labels each repetition so per-repetition metrics can be matched to the repetition they describe.

## Use Cases

* Confirming the capture matches the protocol (for example, 5 repetitions for the 5xSTS)
* Repetition-based tests where the score is the number of repetitions completed
* Matching per-repetition metrics to individual repetitions
