# Peak Rise Velocity

> Maximum upward velocity of the body center of mass during the rise of each sit-to-stand repetition.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Discrete Metric
* **Data Type:** Float
* **Units:** m/s
* **Column Name:** `peak_rise_velocity`, `mean_peak_rise_velocity`
* **Optimal Direction:** Higher is better
* **Measurement:** Maximum upward vertical velocity of the body center of mass from [Seat Off](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/events/seat-off) to [Stand](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/events/stand). If the body center of mass is unavailable, the hip center (pelvis keypoint) is used.

## Variants

* **Peak Rise Velocity** (`peak_rise_velocity`) (per repetition)
* **Mean Peak Rise Velocity** (`mean_peak_rise_velocity`) (summary): average Peak Rise Velocity across all analyzed repetitions.

## Description

Peak Rise Velocity is the fastest upward speed the body reaches while standing up.
Higher values reflect a more explosive rise and are closely related to lower extremity power.

## Use Cases

* Rise explosiveness
* Tracking power-related changes over time
* Complement to [Relative Power](https://docs.uplift.ai/biomechanics/activities/stability/sit_to_stand/metrics/relative-power)
