# Hip Knee Dominance

> Ratio of hip vs. knee contribution (0 = hip dominant, 1 = knee dominant) during eccentric or concentric phase.

## Events / Phases

This metric can be reported for different phases depending on squat type:

* **Eccentric:** From [Initiation](/biomechanics/activities/squat/events/initiation) to [Bottom](/biomechanics/activities/squat/events/bottom).
  * Column examples: `eccentric_hip_knee_dominance` (bodyweight, overhead); `left_eccentric_hip_knee_dominance`, `right_eccentric_hip_knee_dominance` (single leg).
* **Concentric:** From [Ascent Start](/biomechanics/activities/squat/events/ascent-start) to [End](/biomechanics/activities/squat/events/end).

## Description

Hip knee dominance describes how much the athlete uses the hip versus the knee during the eccentric or concentric phase of the squat. A value of 0 indicates hip-dominant strategy; 1 indicates knee-dominant. Single-leg squats report left/right-specific columns for each phase.
