# Concentric Velocity

> Average vertical velocity during the squat concentric (upward) phase.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Discrete Metric
* **Data Type:** Float
* **Units:** m/s
* **Column Name:** `max_concentric_velocity`
* **Aggregation:** mean
* **Precision:** 2
* **Optimal Direction:** Higher is better
* **Calculation:** The average center of mass vertical velocity from [Ascent Start](/biomechanics/activities/squat/events/ascent-start) to [End](/biomechanics/activities/squat/events/end)

## Description

Concentric velocity is the average velocity of the pelvis center during the upward (concentric) phase of the squat.
It reflects speed of ascent and can indicate effort or intent.

## Use Cases

* Ascent speed and power proxy
* Consistency across reps
* Comparison across squat types
