# Bottom1

> The first instance of maximum squat depth.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Event
* **Data Type:** Integer
* **Units:** Frame number
* **Column Name:** \`\`
* **Required for QA:** False
* **Measurement:** First frame at which maximum squat depth is reached

## Description

Bottom1 marks the first instant when the pelvis (or relevant segment) reaches maximum squat depth during the descent.
It can be used to distinguish continuous squats from paused squats and to define the start of the bottom hold.

In continuous squats (without holding at the bottom), Bottom1 may be the same as [Bottom](/biomechanics/activities/squat/events/bottom).

## Use Cases

* Distinguishing continuous vs. paused squat
* Bottom phase definition
* Timing of depth-related metrics
