# Pre-Tracking

> Binary indicator if shoulders or hips rotate away from the target before the drive phase.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Discrete Metric
* **Data Type:** Boolean
* **Units:** True/False
* **Column Name:** `pre_tracking_flag`
* **Aggregation:** rate
* **Precision:** 0
* **Optimal Direction:** Lower is better
* **Unknown Value:** -1
* **Measurement:** Trunk and pelvis rotation away from the target between initiation and drive start
* **Threshold:** Trunk or pelvis rotates more than 40° away from the target

## Description

Pre-tracking is a binary indicator that flags when the shoulders and/or hips rotate away from the target by more than 40° before the drive phase begins, which can indicate the pitcher is opening up too early in the delivery.

## Use Cases

* Trunk and pelvis sequencing assessment
* Mechanics evaluation

## Corrective Drills

### 1. Target-Facing Windup Drill

Stand facing the target (catcher) with feet together. Perform slow-motion windups while keeping the shoulders and hips square to the target through the initiation phase, only allowing rotation to begin at the drive step. Use a mirror or video to confirm the trunk and pelvis stay facing forward. Perform 3 sets of 10 slow repetitions.

### 2. Wall Drill for Hip/Shoulder Alignment

Stand with the back foot against a wall, facing the target. Work through the windup and leg lift while keeping the hips and shoulders aligned with the target line. The wall provides a tactile reference to prevent premature rotation. Perform 20 repetitions before bullpen sessions.
