Technical Details

  • Variable Type: Discrete Metric
  • Data Type: Float
  • Units: degrees (°)
  • Column Name: lunge_forward_max_right_trunk_lean, lunge_forward_max_left_trunk_lean
  • Measurement: Maximum frontal-plane trunk angle relative to the pelvis from Initiation to End

Events / Phases

  • Measured from Initiation to End.
    • lunge_forward_max_right_trunk_lean: maximum positive trunk lateral angle (lean toward right)
    • lunge_forward_max_left_trunk_lean: maximum magnitude of negative trunk lateral angle (lean toward left)

Description

Max trunk lean captures the greatest lateral deviation of the trunk relative to the pelvis during the lunge movement. Excessive lateral lean can indicate compensatory strategies related to hip mobility limitations, weakness, or balance deficits. Reported separately for rightward and leftward lean.

Use Cases

  • Balance and stability assessment during single-leg loading
  • Identifying lateral compensation strategies
  • Coaching and movement quality feedback
