Technical Details

  • Variable Type: Discrete Metric
  • Data Type: Float
  • Units: meters (m)
  • Column Names: lunge_forward_stance_length, lunge_forward_stance_width
  • Measurement: Distance between mid-toe markers at the Bottom event, normalized to pelvis orientation

Description

Stance length is the anterior–posterior (fore–aft) distance between the front and rear feet at the bottom of the lunge, measured after rotating the coordinate frame to align with the pelvis orientation. Stance width is the medial–lateral (side-to-side) distance between the feet at the same instant. Together, these describe the step geometry adopted by the athlete.

Use Cases

  • Step length and width consistency assessment
  • Identification of overly narrow or asymmetric stances
  • Comparison across athletes, sessions, or fatigue conditions
