# Max Knee Flexion Angle

> Maximum knee flexion angle of the right or left knee during the forward lunge.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Discrete Metric
* **Data Type:** Float
* **Units:** degrees (°)
* **Column Name:** `lunge_forward_max_right_knee_flexion_angle`, `lunge_forward_max_left_knee_flexion_angle`
* **Aggregation:** mean
* **Precision:** 0
* **Optimal Direction:** Higher is better
* **Measurement:** Maximum knee flexion angle from [Initiation](/biomechanics/activities/lunge/events/initiation) to [End](/biomechanics/activities/lunge/events/end)

## Description

Max knee flexion angle is the greatest knee flexion achieved by each leg during the lunge movement. The lead knee typically reaches its maximum flexion near the [Bottom](/biomechanics/activities/lunge/events/bottom) event. Both sides are reported regardless of footedness.

## Use Cases

* Knee range of motion assessment
* Bilateral knee mobility comparison
* Lunge depth and movement quality analysis
