# Takeoff Velocity

> Vertical velocity at takeoff.

## Technical Details

* **Variable Type:** Discrete Metric
* **Data Type:** Float
* **Units:** m/s
* **Column Name:** `takeoff_velocity`
* **Aggregation:** mean
* **Precision:** 2
* **Optimal Direction:** Higher is better
* **Measurement:** Vertical component of center of mass velocity at the takeoff event

## Description

Takeoff velocity is the vertical velocity of the center of mass at the instant of takeoff. It directly relates to jump height and reflects the impulse generated during the concentric phase.

## Use Cases

* Jump performance and impulse assessment
* Comparison with jump height (consistency check)
* Force–velocity profiling
