# Peak Ankle Velocity

> Maximum ankle angular velocity (flexion or extension).

* **Measurement:** Maximum rate of ankle extension (plantarflexion) during the specified concentric phase

## Events / Phases

This metric can be reported during the following concentric (push/stand-up) phases:

* **Takeoff Concentric:** From [Bottom](/biomechanics/activities/jump/events/bottom) to [Takeoff](/biomechanics/activities/jump/events/takeoff).
  * Column examples: `jumping_left_ankle_peak_extension_velocity`, `jumping_right_ankle_peak_extension_velocity` (bilateral); `jumping_ankle_peak_extension_velocity` (single-leg).
* **Landing Concentric:** From [Landing Bottom](/biomechanics/activities/jump/events/landing-bottom) to [Termination](/biomechanics/activities/jump/events/termination).
  * Column names vary by implementation; typically left/right in bilateral.

## Description

Peak ankle velocity is the maximum angular velocity of ankle dorsiflexion (flexion) or plantarflexion (extension) during a specific phase of the jump.
It reflects ankle power and contribution to the kinematic sequence.
The phase, direction, and side determines which column name applies.
