# Knees Track

> Binary indicator of whether the knees track properly over the toes during the jump

* **Units:** 1 = yes *correct*, 0 = no *incorrect*
* **Column Name:** `knees_track`

* **Measurement:** knee-to-ankle separation ratio: the relative distance between knees and ankles
  * Distance threshold: 85% - the the knee-knee distance drops below 85% of the ankle-ankle distance, then the knees do not track

## Description

Knees track is a binary flag indicating whether the knees track properly over the toes during the jump and landing.
Poor tracking (e.g., knee valgus or inward knee motion) is associated with injury risk.

Knees track is determined using the knee to ankle separation ratio, measuring the relative distances between both knees and both ankles.
If the knee-to-knee distance crosses below 85% of the ankle-to-ankle distance, then the knees do not track, flagging suboptimal jumping mechanics.
